About

A Lifelong Love for Great Danes

Hi, I’m Tim Breen, a lifelong dog lover with a soft spot for one of the most majestic, goofy, and lovable breeds on the planet: the Great Dane. This site grew out of years spent breeding, raising, and sharing both my life and my couch with these giant “velcro dogs.” What started as a place to help new and future Great Dane owners has turned into something bigger.

I wanted to share not just the basics, but the real do’s and don’ts for experienced Dane owners too. As I kept building, I realized that much of what I’ve learned applies to more than just Great Danes. So now I’m expanding my knowledge to other breeds and gradually growing this site into a resource for all dog owners. My goal is simple: to create a place where anyone can find reliable information, practical tips, and real-world solutions for raising a happy, healthy dog.

Along the way, I’ve shared products and ideas I’ve personally used or learned about, with links to tools and resources from across the web that can make life easier for dog owners. And this is just the beginning. I plan to keep collecting ideas and tips so this site continues to grow right alongside the community it serves.

When I was breeding Great Danes, my biggest fear was that one of my dogs would end up in the wrong home or in a rescue. That’s why I always focused on asking questions and educating potential owners. A lot of people think you need a massive backyard to raise a Great Dane, but what you really need is love, patience, and the right information.

From Breeder to Forever Owner

When I first stepped into the world of Great Dane breeding, I was equal parts excited and terrified. I knew these dogs weren’t just big bodies — they were big responsibilities. Sending a puppy to the wrong home was my worst nightmare.

Every placement felt personal. I wanted each Great Dane puppy to land in a home where they’d be cherished as a family member for life, not treated as a trend or a novelty. That experience shaped everything I do now and is one of the reasons my home is still full of my own BIG lap dogs.

Over the years I’ve lived with shy Danes, bold Danes, clingy Danes, and wild clown Danes. Different personalities, same giant hearts. They all taught me that responsible ownership and good education matter far more than pedigrees or fancy registration papers.

Lessons Learned from Raising Great Danes

Raising Great Danes taught me more about dogs than any book ever could. I learned how nutrition, exercise, bloat prevention, joint health, training, and even everyday routines look different when your dog weighs more than most humans.

Along the way I wrote down everything that actually worked in real life: what helped with sensitive stomachs, what kept growth plates safe during the puppy stage, and how to manage anxiety in dogs who think you leaving the room is the end of the world.

Many of these tips are specific to giant breeds, but much of what I share applies to any dog: building trust, setting clear boundaries, and choosing habits that keep them healthier for longer. This site became the place to organize those hard-earned lessons so other owners don’t have to start from scratch.

Why I’m on a Mission to Help

Nothing hits me harder than seeing a Great Dane surrendered to a shelter because the family was overwhelmed, not because the dog was “bad.” These gentle giants can be a handful, but most problems come down to one thing: nobody told the owners what they were signing up for.

That’s where this site comes in. My mission is simple: help current and future Great Dane owners understand the breed well enough that they never feel like giving their dog up is the only option.

By sharing both the hilarious moments and the hard ones, I hope to give people the confidence to handle big-dog problems before they become crises — from crate training and leash manners to bloat awareness and senior care.

What You’ll Find Here

If you follow along on this site (and on Pinterest, Instagram, and the rest of the chaos), here’s what you’ll see:

  • Great Dane care tips from puppyhood through senior years, including health, nutrition, and training.
  • Breed-specific advice on exercise needs, temperament, and all the quirky Great Dane behavior you’ll meet.
  • General dog tips that help with everyday life, no matter what breed you share the couch with.
  • Preventing surrender resources for owners who feel in over their heads and need practical, judgment-free help.
  • Stories & humor that remind us why we fell in love with these ridiculous, big-hearted dogs in the first place.

My Promise to You

Everything I share on this site comes from real life. I’ve dealt with late-night emergency vet visits, surprise growth spurts, bloat scares, mobility issues, and the kind of “zoomies” that make you question your furniture choices. I’ve also had those quiet moments where a Great Dane rests their head on your lap and you realize you’re the luckiest person in the world.

My promise is to keep things honest, practical, and compassionate. No scare tactics, no gimmicks — just straightforward information to help you give your dog the best life you can.

If even one family keeps their Great Dane out of a shelter and in a loving home because of something they learned here, I’ll consider this project a success.

So whether you’re here for big-dog education, breed-specific knowledge, or just Great Dane smile fuel, I’m glad you found this corner of the internet. Let’s make life with these incredible dogs the joyful adventure it’s meant to be.
